Dr. Ben Character has invested his life in education and educational leadership influencing the lives of thousands of young people and teachers.  He taught high school math for five years then served twenty-five additional years as a public elementary and high school principal/administrator.  After retirement from public education he served for sixteen years as Headmaster, CFO or Director of Development.  Concurrent with this time period he also served as a university adjunct professor at the undergraduate and graduate levels teaching school leadership courses.  A trademark of Ben’s leadership has been the excellence of academic achievement of his students and awards for outstanding community involvement.

After completing his career in public education, Ben was called to Faith Christian School (K-12) in Anniston, Alabama where he served for 16 years as Headmaster, CFO or Director of Development.  At Faith Christian School, Ben was involved in two successful J.F. Smith Group campaigns to raise funds to construct two major buildings on campus.  He was actively involved in solicitations at the leadership giving level and was instrumental in working closely with all aspects of the campaign.

Character resides in Oxford, Alabama with his wife, Kay, who is a retired public school and church librarian.  Ben is active in his church as well as Gideons International and he enjoys his grandchildren (all 17 of them!).  His two sons, Benjamin and Mark, have successful careers and are making great fathers to all these wonderful children.
