Dr. John Hammett enjoyed at 33 year career in education where he taught on both the P-12 and college levels. His most recent assignment was that of dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies at Jacksonville State University (AL).

Before his tenure as dean, John served as the associate dean, department head for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, director of the JSU Wellness Center and professor of exercise science and wellness. Overall, John served 29 years in administrative roles at JSU. During his time as dean, he served as the president of the Alabama Association of Colleges for Teaching Education and on the Governor’s taskforce on teacher preparation.

Before returning to his alma mater in 1989, John was on the faculty of the University of South Carolina at Aiken. He also served as a teacher and coach at Shelby County High School in Columbiana, AL and John Shaw High School in Mobile, AL.
